New Delhi: Country’s highest selling scooter Honda Activa continued to conquer the first spot in the pecking order of top 10 two-wheelers, sold in the month of July, with sales at 286,380 units.
For the second straight month, the scooter managed to remain at the first position, pushing behind Hero MotoCorp’s popular bike Splendor to the second spot. Splendor saw sales of 260,865 units in July.
After maintaining its leadership position for over two years, Honda Activa was dethroned by Splendor in May 2018 to the second spot in the list, with overall scooter sales declining after 15 months.
In May 2018, the industry saw a reverse in trend, with scooter sales declining after around 15 months by 1.40 per cent to 555,467 units in May.
Niche bike maker Royal Enfield, which featured at the 10th position in July last year with its Classic 350 model, has been moved out of the list in July 2018.
Hero’s HF Deluxe continued to remain at the third spot with sales of 183,694 units in the month of July, according to data shared by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The company’s other model Passion bagged the fourth spot with sales at 88,354 units, out shelling Honda’s CB Shine, which was pushed to fifth position in June. CB Shine saw sales of 86,160 units last month compared to 81,704 units in July 2017, when it was at the fourth spot.
Following in order, Bajaj CT, which did not feature in the list in July last year, bagged the sixth position last month with sales at 76,776 units.
Hero MotoCorp’s Glamour model, which stood at the sixth position in July last year, has been pushed to the seventh spot at 74,553 units in July 2018.
TVS XL Super, the only moped, continued to remain at the eighth position by selling 67,106 units in July as against 60,589 units in the same month previous year.
Its other popular scooter Jupiter managed to bag the ninth place with sales at 66,632 units last month, compared to 62,707 units in the same month last year, when it was in the seventh position.
Lastly, Bajaj Pulsar, has been pushed behind by one spot with sales standing at 63,388 units in July 2018 as against 56,953 units in the year ago month.
